A hidden cave, two nights under the stars
Djara Cave Tour from Cairo: Overview
Imagine stepping out of the open desert into a hidden world of glowing stalactites and stalagmites, in a cave most visitors to Egypt never hear about. Our private 3-day Djara Cave tour from Cairo or Giza takes you far beyond the classic White Desert circuit to Djara Cave, one of the most remarkable natural wonders of the Western Desert, and you even have lunch inside it.
Djara is a real desert expedition. It sits deep in remote terrain, reached only by 4×4 across open desert, which is why most short tours skip it. First described by the German explorer Gerhard Rohlfs in 1873 and later rediscovered, the cave is known for its spectacular limestone formations and prehistoric rock engravings, and on the way, we tell you the stories of the people and the desert that shaped them.
But this trip is about more than places. You travel with a local team from Bahariya Oasis, and we welcome you the way we welcome friends. We share our food, our customs and our desert traditions. Each evening we light the campfire, cook a traditional Bedouin dinner and brew our Bedouin tea slowly over the coals. Then we stay up with you under a sky full of stars, telling stories, laughing and playing desert games far from the noise of the city.
Before the cave, day one takes you through the volcanic hills of the Black Desert, lunch beside a natural spring in El Hez village, the sparkling quartz of Crystal Mountain and the hidden caves of Agabat Valley. After two nights camping in the White Desert, you meet its famous Chicken and Mushroom rocks before returning to Cairo or Giza.
If you want an adventure few travelers get to experience, this is it. For a classic itinerary without Djara, see our 3-day White Desert tour or the extended 4-day White Desert tour.
